Should You Bring a Colleague to a Networking Event?

I was just reading an article called Should You Bring a Colleague to a Networking Event?  The article presented two points of view. First, taking someone with you provides a way of introducing one another to others at the event; this is always a good thing.

On the down side, if that person is not a networker then you may find that they become a burden rather than an asset. You can, however, leverage this by being an introducer to tie people together and be remembered for helping out.

I personally, and I suspect many of you, find it easier to stay in my comfort zone and chat with someone I already know. This can be a serious drawback. I usually go alone to force myself out of my comfort zone and meet new people. I also find it very helpful if I plan to meet a couple of specific people at that event.
